WESTERN KENYA’S RADIO SIMBA, “ROARS” WITH LAWO

“Hakuna Matata” with LAWO (No worries with Lawo)

Known for their love for radio, the western community from Kenya are the biggest radio listeners with their cheer of the spirit of “mulembe” that taught Kenyans to wish peace upon their brethren no matter the distance through “salamu ya radio”. Today they’ve all been joined by generation “X” love for sending ‘shout outs’. This “Luhya community” tradition of sending peace to kin and kindred is now the staple of every hip radio and TV show out there as they take advantage of this medium to spread love and solve family disputes.
Radio Simba is the new kid in the block covering western Kenya and the greater Rift valley region. When it came time to build their new facility, Radio Simba selected Lawo and purchased the equipment from Byce Broadcast, Lawo’s distributor and systems integrator based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Byce broadcast was responsible for the concept, project planning, and installation and commissioning. A complete review of both IT and broadcast technologies was undertaken to make certain that Radio Simba took full advantage of the synergies provided by an IP-based studio environment.
Lawo products used in the new studios include a Lawo crystal mixing console, with its clear design and quality engineering, Lawo’s Crystal offers the best value for money. Compact Engine AoIP mixing platforms, and VisTool GUI-builder software. The new facilities debuted in November 2019.
The second studio features Lawo’s Virtual Console RELAY, RƎLAY is a complete Virtual Radio Mixer, with the professional tools you need, from voice processing to mix-minus, built into its multi-touch-enabled interface. Operators can build an entire broadcast studio on a single touchscreen PC, using RƎLAY software on the same PC that hosts the playout system, software codecs, streaming encoders, and other studios.
The team is very happy with their new studios and Lawo equipment. Says Joshua Kisiang’ani, the station’s owner “We are extremely proud of what we’ve achieved. It is both very functional and beautiful!”
